Courtesy Call on Governor Koike by the National Abacus Education Federation Tokyo Branch

On October 3, officials and students who belong to the Tokyo Branch of the League for Soroban Education of Japan, Inc. paid a courtesy call on Governor Koike to report their winning the championship in the tournament of prefecture-specific teams at the “2025 All-Japan Abacus Championship Tournament.”



This visit was also to report that a student in Tokyo became the champion in the competition among elementary school students in the individual category, an event held at the Kyoto International Conference Center on Aug. 8 (Abacus Day).

This visit was made by Mr. Kawaguchi Yoshiharu, head of the league’s Tokyo branch, along with Miura Kisa, a student of Katsushika Ward’s Futakami Elementary School; Kuzuoka Chisa, a student of Nishitokyo’s Hoya Junior High School; and Miyamoto Rikako, a member of Miyamoto Anzan Kenkyujuku Max. The three won the championship in the tournament of prefecture-specific teams. Also visiting was Kuroiwa Noe, a student of Setagaya Ward’s Higashifukasawa Elementary School, who became the champion in the competition in the individual category among elementary school students.


 

The governor said, “Congratulations on your achievements. You demonstrated the results of your daily practices on the national stage. I believe the abacus cultivates not only calculation skills but also the power of focusing and perseverance. I hope you will continue to challenge yourselves, aiming for even higher levels.

She also encouraged them by promising, “The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will also do its utmost to support the creation of an environment where young talents can flourish freely. Please keep up your work.”
