Signing Ceremony for Revised MOU with the City of London Held
On Monday, Sept. 8, 2025, Governor Koike Yuriko attended the signing ceremony for the revised MOU with the City of London, held at the British Embassy in Chiyoda City, Tokyo, alongside Lord Mayor Alastair King of the City of London and British Ambassador to Japan Julia Longbottom.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the City of London Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding in December 2017 concerning exchange and cooperation between the two entities, deepening collaboration in the financial sector.
With the revision, the two cities will further strengthen cooperation and advance initiatives to promote financial innovation and expand investments between Japan and the UK.
The governor stated, “Through exchanges of views with successive Lord Mayors, seminars held in both Tokyo and London, and the dispatch of Tokyo Metropolitan Government officials to the City, the partnership between our two cities has become stronger. This revision adds collaboration on financial innovation and expanding investment between Japan and the UK. The 21st century is the era of cities. As the importance of multi-city collaboration grows more than ever, it is vital to leverage finance to advance decarbonization and strengthen resilience.
That is precisely why this revision of the MOU is so significant. Marking today's revision as a milestone, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, together with the City of London, will continue to advance as a world-leading international financial center. We will strive to achieve concrete results, such as promoting investment between Japan and the UK, while moving forward toward a sustainable and better future.”
