Tokyo, Google Japan G.K. Sign an Agreement on the Capital’s DX Promotion
Governor Koike attended a ceremony on September 16 to sign an agreement between the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Google Japan G.K., the Japanese unit of U.S. tech giant Google, on their collaboration and cooperation in promoting digital transformation across the capital city.
The ceremony was also attended by Christopher (Cris) Turner, Google’s vice president of knowledge and information products .
Governor Koike said, “Energy, semiconductors and AI are among the areas locked in extremely intense global competition, where cyberattacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated and advanced every year.”
“Against this background, we hope to accelerate the digital transformation of Tokyo and further enrich the livelihood of Tokyo residents,” she went on. “Finding better ways to utilize digital technology will make living effective.”
The governor noted that Google is “leading the world in utilizing geospatial data, such as with Google Maps, as well as endeavoring to solve social challenges by making full use of cutting-edge technologies including AI.” “Now it is highly meaningful to conclude an agreement with Google Japan G.K.”
“I strongly hope that the new services to be developed will be swiftly implemented in society and contribute to solving various challenges,” she said. “We’d like to join hands in creating a bright future for Tokyo, Japan and the world.”
