CJEB Annual Tokyo Conference: Finance, Security, and Markets
On July 28, at the Otemachi Financial City Conference Center, Governor Koike delivered a special address at the annual conference in Tokyo presented by Columbia University Business School's Center on Japanese Economy and Business (CJEB). The event was titled "Japan's Role in an Evolving World Economy: Finance, Security, and Markets.”
The governor stated, "Natural disasters are becoming more frequent and severe. Safety and security are the fundamental prerequisites for sustainable growth into the future. We need to strengthen our resilience to overcome difficulties and adapt flexibly.”
She continued, “Tokyo aims to become a leading city in sustainable and resilient finance to help realize a sustainable and resilient society from a financial perspective. This fiscal year, we will newly issue Tokyo Resilience Bonds to push ahead with the TOKYO Resilience Project. We will protect people's lives and livelihoods from the threat of natural disasters and work to maintain urban functions and economic activity.”
The governor concluded, “In a rapidly changing world, with unpredictable international affairs, Tokyo will leverage its established strengths and appeal to enhance its presence in the global community. We will shift the turbulence of our times into positive momentum. One initiative driving this change is SusHi Tech Tokyo 2025, held this May. In its third year, it has already grown into Asia's premier innovation conference in both name and content. Spurred by expectations for a safe, amazing, and exciting city, Tokyo will lead the charge toward a bright future."
