The KK Line Reborn Ceremony
On April 18, Governor Koike participated in the “KK Line Reborn Ceremony,” where she committed to transforming an urban motorway into a pedestrian-centered, walkable area attracting both domestic and international tourists.
The ceremony took place at the Tokyo Expressway (KK Line) and was also attended by Mr. Kato Hiroshi, the President of Tokyo Kosoku Expressway Co., and Ms. Hanaki Mariko, the managing director and head of the project promotion office of the company.
The governor stated, “The KK Line has supported the growth and development of Tokyo for 60 years since its opening in 1966. It will be converted from a motorway into an area for people to feel excited about and will become an iconic example of urban development in Tokyo as a walkable city.”
To realize this, the governor said, “The Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in cooperation with Tokyo Kosoku Expressway Co., will continue to work on the revitalization of the KK Line. We would like to enable its potential to come into bloom by sharing ideas with many others, including people in the community.”
The governor then emphasized, “Let’s liven up the momentum for creating yet another must-visit attraction in Tokyo for holidaymakers both from home and abroad, which will also draw global attention.”
